A People Like their God
“The Weakest Among Them Will Be as Mighty as David” — Zechariah 12:8
Zechariah 12:8 declares:
“On that day the LORD will defend the people of Jerusalem; the weakest among them will be as mighty as King David! And the royal descendants will be like God, like the angel of the LORD who goes before them!”
This remarkable prophecy describes the supernatural transformation that will take place among the people of Israel at the end of the Time of Jacob’s Trouble.
Christ the Warrior King Defends Israel
At the climax of the Great Tribulation, after all nations have gathered against Jerusalem, the Lord Himself will come to defend His people. Christ—the Warrior King and Messiah—will descend from heaven to destroy the little horn who will have waged war against Israel for three and a half years.
On that day, the weakest among the Jewish people will be empowered with the strength and courage of King David. They will reflect the very likeness of their God and bear the nature of the angel of the Lord who goes before them.
Israel as a Corporate Picture of Christ
During the Great Tribulation, the Jewish people will experience rejection, hatred, persecution, and suffering. In this, they will become a corporate reflection of Christ Himself:
despised and rejected,
familiar with sorrow,
hidden from,
and held in low esteem—
just as Christ was.
Through their weakness, the Lord will shape them into His image. Their suffering becomes a corporate cross. And just as Christ was exalted after His suffering, so Israel will be exalted among the nations.
