Follow the Star of Jacob
Prophecy in the Bible is alive and has layers of fulfillment. I believe that patterns of prophetic events reoccur in history until finding their ultimate fulfillment.
We know that the signs of the coming of the Messiah were prophesied thousands of years before he came to earth. One of those signs was the appearance of a Star that will announce the season and location of the Messiah's birth.
“I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the people of Sheth.” Numbers 24:17
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from old, from ancient times.” Micah 5:2
This star helped the magi coming from afar to find the promised Messiah. As they fixed their eyes on the star and followed it they were able to find him and worship him.
“After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.” Matthew 2:9
It is clear that it was a physical star in the heavens that led the magi to find the Messiah when he first came to earth. But I believe that there is a spiritual heavenly star that keeps shining and announcing the coming of the Messiah, and that spiritual star is the church. I also believe that this spiritual star will shine even brighter in the End Times as it prepares the way of the Lord announcing his soon return.
t is indeed through the seed of Abraham, as numerous as the STARS in the sky, that all the nations of the earth will be blessed.
“I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed.” Genesis 26:4
And it is indeed through the light the church produces when she announces the coming of the savior that all nations are blessed. It is only as the bright spiritual star of Jacob shines its light that all nations can be led to find the Messiah and therefore be blessed as they acknowledge him as King and savior.
So indeed a star has come to announce Jesus' first coming, but a spiritual star remains shining its bright light as it announces the good news of the gospel!! If you want to find the savior of the world, follow the light of the star of Jacob. Listen to the message of those who shine bright with the light of the gospel because the source of their light is Jesus himself. Jesus the Messiah, Emmanuel, our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). The very one who is about to return to judge and rule the nations of the earth!! Oh come let us adore him! He is Christ the Lord.
