Israel and the Antichrist Spirit: Understanding the Spiritual Battle
All anti-Israel sentiment is ultimately rooted in an antichrist spirit.
The spirit behind antisemitism can be seen in the biblical pattern of Amalek—a spiritual opposition that resists God’s covenant purposes and seeks to oppose the people through whom the Messiah came into the world. Scripture reveals that there is an ongoing spiritual conflict concerning God’s plans for Israel, Jerusalem, and the Kingdom of God. What happened on October 7th 2023 is a small glimpse of a greater battle that it is to come.
The battle is ultimately spiritual: a conflict over the purposes of God and His redemptive plan for the nations.
Ezekiel 37 presents a powerful end-time picture of restoration. Through the vision of the dry bones, God declares His intention to revive Israel both physically and spiritually:
“Behold, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel.” (Ezekiel 37:12)
God promises not only national restoration, but also spiritual renewal:
“I will put My Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land.” (Ezekiel 37:14)
The conclusion of this prophetic picture is a restored people dwelling securely in the land, cleansed from sin, and ruled by the Son of David:
“My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd.” (Ezekiel 37:24)
God Himself is the One who chooses Israel and places her in the land according to His covenant promises.
The Messiah who will rule the nations must come from the tribe of Judah and the lineage of David, for Scripture declares:
“The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to Him shall be the obedience of the peoples.” (Genesis 49:10)
God also promised David:
“Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.” (2 Samuel 7:16)
The wars surrounding Jerusalem and the Jewish people have a spiritual dimension. Zechariah describes a future time when the nations gather against Jerusalem:
“Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around… all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it.” (Zechariah 12:2–3)
Likewise, Ezekiel 38–39 describes a final conflict involving many nations coming against the land of Israel.
Behind earthly conflicts, Scripture reminds us of a greater spiritual reality:
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, against authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12)
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible presents a conflict between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent:
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
Yet God’s purposes will prevail. The prophets declare that the Messiah, the Son of David, will reign from Jerusalem, and the nations will come to worship the Lord:
“For the law will go forth from Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 2:3)
The story of Scripture ends not with darkness, but with the triumph of God’s Kingdom and the reign of the King from Jerusalem.
