The Lovesick Bride Poem

There stands the beloved. Hanging on the cross with arms wide open telling the bride.

The Beloved: I love you. I am yours and you are mine. I have poured out my life for you and I have shed my blood for your freedom. I was pierced with sharp nails for your healing. I was rejected by my own brothers so you could be accepted as my bride by my Father. Will you marry me? As the second Adam, the Father has decreed that it isn’t good for me to be alone and has promised to give me a suitable helpmate while I sleep. Will you be mine so we could become one flesh and multiply?

The Bride: You are the one who loved me even when I did not care for you. You are the one who blessed me with all heavenly treasures when I did nothing to deserve them. You are the one who paid the highest dowry to the Father to marry me, even when I gave my love to other lovers. You are the one who gave me all the spoils of a victory I did not win. You are the one who chose suffering and humiliation so I could be restored and given a place of honor in your kingdom. None else can love me like you do. I am yours and you are mine. Yes, I will be your bride! Yes, I will choose to follow you. You are my radiant one. You are ruddy and outstanding among ten thousand. My heart belongs to you.

The Beloved: Will you persevere and patiently wait for me until I come back on a white horse to celebrate our wedding? Because after I resurrect in glory I'll have to go to my Father to prepare a place for you.

The Bride: You are worthy! I will wait for you as I keep the word of your patience. I will continually remember my commitment to you and the day you asked me to be your bride every time I sit down to have your bread and your wine. I will endure all adversity and travail until you come back to get me! In the meantime, I will get myself ready as I bathe myself in myrrh, frankincense, perfumes and other aromatic spices. I will also make sure I put on my white wedding gown without spot and wrinkle! I will wait for you eagerly as I pray to the Father to hasten your coming! I will remain faithful to you even when I feel lonely and frail. I will stand in the promise of your return my beloved. But don’t take too long, for I am lovesick. I long for our wedding day! I cannot wait for the day that I will stand beside you as you rule in your kingdom. Come back soon. My heart will continue to cry out Maranatha until seeing you return in victory riding in the clouds!
